Join me next Friday at the 6th Annual PLANTPOP Film Festival, celebrating the work of “incredible commissioned filmmakers. They represent the coolest plant people near them and come from cities, states, and countries all over the world.” Several of the commissioned filmmakers will be in attendance, including two from Europe! (Yes, I hope to find out how all this is funded.)

Here’s the trailer for the 2024 festival:

Last year’s winners included a film about a woman who survived the covid shutdown by making miniatures of houseplants (best plant film; best original score), and a little terrarium shop in Portland, Maine (best editing).

Plant Films and Cool People, too!

Promotion for the festival includes this intriguing bit: “We are welcoming the coolest people in the realms of horticulture and film. We’re talking experienced film editors, renowned artists, published authors, horticulturists, nurserymen, plant people, and more!”

Who ARE the Organizers?

Credit for the festival and commissioning the films goes to PLANTPOP, a “horticultural film studio” in Suffolk, Virginia.  But if, like me, you want to know more, follow the trail to Lancaster Farms, a wholesale grower there in Suffolk. Its owner and CEO (Art Parkerson) is also the executive producer of PLANTPOP.

It’s at Lancaster Farms where the cool after-party will happen: “After the screening, come back to Lancaster Farms with us as we host our after party with additional food and drinks! It’s a great opportunity to have meaningful conversations around the fire pit. Free of charge!”

If you’re in the plant biz, you may know Parkerson for his column in “Grower Talks.”

I still have questions, but next week I’ll be there as the nosy blogger they know me to be (they invited me) and my show-and-tell will be right here.
